You know that festival shirt you are still wearing three years later? That is exactly what good merch is about today. A shirt from a gig, your sports club or that one coffee bar is no longer a souvenir that ends up at the back of a drawer, but everyday clothing you put on every week. Looking for boxy T-shirt printing for your merch? Clothing brand B&C calls it the new merch code: boxy, sturdy, for everyone and with a good story. We have rounded up the lessons, with styles you can have printed at our print shop in Nijmegen, starting from a single piece.

In short

  • ✓Boxy: one fit that suits almost everyone
  • ✓Sturdy: heavier cotton that holds its shape
  • ✓For everyone: black, navy, off-white, grey and khaki
  • ✓With a story: organic cotton and recycled blends

Merch T-shirts that become a favourite

Merch used to be all about the logo. Now people look just as closely at the fit, the fabric and the colour. Do you only wear the shirt on the day itself, or does it become a firm favourite? The latter is priceless: every time someone wears your shirt, your name walks through town with them. Whether you run a band, an event, a club or your own label: choose clothing people genuinely love. Then merch is no longer an afterthought, but a way to build a real connection with your audience.

Every time someone wears your shirt, your name walks through town with them.

Which T-shirt colour should you choose for merch?

According to B&C, simple colours go a long way. Black, navy, off-white, heather grey and khaki work with almost any print, from a big graphic to a small tone-on-tone logo. And they're easy to combine with what's already in your wardrobe. That turns your merch from a loud one-day shirt into something people simply wear under a jacket or with jeans. So your name stays visible for longer.

Tip for tone-on-tone

Pick a vinyl colour that's just a little lighter or darker than the fabric. We have 104 vinyl colours, including fluorescent, gold, silver and metallic. Want a photo or a design with gradients? Then choose full colour DTF, which also looks great on dark fabric.

Boxy T-shirt printing: today’s fit

The roomy, boxy fit went from the catwalk to the festival field. The best part: one style suits almost everyone, whatever their build. So no puzzling over separate men's and women's styles, and nobody has to ask whether there's a women's version. A big design on the back or a bold print on the chest really shines on a roomy shirt like this, whether your design is simple or loud. Would part of the group still prefer a women's cut? Just add it alongside.

Sturdy fabric and a better story

Let's be honest: nobody wants a thin, see-through shirt on a dusty festival field. That's why merch makers increasingly choose heavier cotton that holds its shape and makes an oversized style drape nicely. Organic cotton and recycled blends are becoming the new normal. People also want to know where their shirt comes from, how it was made and by whom. Choose a style in organic cotton and you instantly say something about what you stand for. Good for the people wearing it, and for the planet.

Where does your print go on a boxy T-shirt?

A boxy shirt falls shorter and wider than a classic T-shirt. That makes a print high on the chest or wide across the back extra strong. For merch, a small logo on the front with a big design on the back almost always works; a date or year on the sleeve finishes it off. We use these sizes as a guideline:

Left chest8–10 cmwide, small logo or tone-on-tone
Centre frontup to 28 cmwide, for a bold chest print
Backup to 30 × 40 cmthe big canvas for your design
Neck6–8 cmsmall brand mark or your website
Sleeve7–9 cmyear, date or second logo

Guidelines; the digital proof shows exactly how big your design comes out on your size.

Keep your merch shirt looking good: wash it inside out at 30 or 40 degrees, skip the fabric softener and preferably line dry it.

Hoodie printing: merch for the whole year

For Gen Z and millennials, merch simply is fashion. The line between a band tee and streetwear has all but disappeared. That's especially true for hoodies and sweatshirts: you wear them from autumn well into spring. A small logo on the chest, big lettering on the back, or both: for each position you choose 1 colour or full colour on the product page. The Influence Crew from the photo at the top can be printed with us too, just like the hoodies below.

Frequently asked questions about printing merch T-shirts

Can I have merch printed in small quantities?

Yes. We print from a single piece, so you can test a few shirts first and order more later. Handy for a first drop, a small club or a band that wants to see which colour sells best. You always get a digital proof first.

Where can I get T-shirts printed in Nijmegen?

In our own workshop at In de Betouwstraat 40, in the centre of Nijmegen. Drop by to feel the fabrics and lay colours side by side. We then press your shirts ourselves, and you pick them up or have them delivered.

Which technique suits my merch design?

A logo or text in 1 or 2 colours we do in cut vinyl: crisp and in 104 colours. A photo, gradient or design with many colours we do in full colour DTF, also on black and navy. Read more on clothing printing in Nijmegen.

Can I also have the back and sleeve printed?

Yes. For each position (chest, back, sleeve…) you choose 1 colour or full colour and upload your logo. The product page shows which positions and techniques are available for each model, and the digital proof shows how it all comes together.

Do I need to order separate women’s and men’s styles?

With a boxy shirt usually not: one style suits almost everyone. If part of the group prefers a women’s cut, simply add it alongside. Read more about that choice in our blog on unisex or gender-neutral teamwear.

Merch that is not a one-day shirt?

Choose one fit, two or three basic colours and your design. We make a digital proof first and then press everything in Nijmegen.
