Take a look around at a festival, on the skate ramp or at a concert: the shirts are getting bigger, the hoodies roomier and the prints run from shoulder to shoulder. Oversized is the fit of streetwear and merch. Want to have an oversized T-shirt printed with a print that really stands out? Kariban has made two oversized pieces that fit the bill perfectly. We'll show you how to turn them, together with a few roomy favourites, into your own merch. In our workshop in Nijmegen, from just one piece.

Oversized T-shirt and hoodie: Kariban's two eye-catchers

The oversized T-shirt K3008 is made of carded cotton with a matte, slightly rough texture. At 220 g/m², it's a thick shirt that hangs beautifully. The shoulders drop (drop shoulders), giving it that typical streetwear silhouette. Simple yet distinctive: exactly what you want for merch.

The oversized fleece hoodie K4018 is made of brushed fleece from carded cotton, 280 g/m². It's fairly thick, yet still wears light. There's elastane in the cuffs, so sleeves and hem don't stretch out of shape. Nice details: a hood with a pleat and cotton lining, and a hidden pocket with a concealed zip in the right side seam. The hoodie comes in six calm, natural colours from XXS to 3XL.

You'll also find the Loose fit sweater for women: a roomy French Terry sweater with a relaxed fit. Combines beautifully with the same print as on the hoodie, for a complete merch line.

Printing big on an oversized shirt: here's how

Oversized clothing calls for a print with guts. A small logo on the chest quickly gets lost in all that fabric. These tips will help:

Go big on the backOn the back of an oversized shirt or hoodie, you have a wide, calm surface. Place your design just below the neck, so it stays clearly visible, even with the hood down.
Combine big and smallA big image on the back and a small logo or short text on the left chest. That's the classic merch combination.
Choose the right techniqueA graphic design in one or two colours looks sharp with cut vinyl, in 104 colours, including fluorescent, gold, silver and metallic. A photo, illustration or gradient is best done in full colour DTF, which also shows up well on dark fabric.
Don't forget the sleeveA year, a tour or a name on the sleeve finishes it off.

On the product page, you choose 1 colour or full colour per position, upload your design and see which positions are available for that model. You'll always receive a digital proof first, so you can see how big your print will be on the garment.

How big can your print be?

That depends on the model and size, but on a roomy shirt you have more surface than you'd think. We use these measurements as a guideline for a T-shirt; in the digital proof, you'll see exactly how it turns out on your size.

Backup to 30 × 40 cmjust below the neck: the spot for your large image
Centre frontup to 28 cmwide, for a big statement on the chest
Left chest8–10 cmwide, the classic counterpart to a back print
Neck6–8 cmfor a small logo or your website
Sleeve7–9 cmfor a year, tour or name

Printing an oversized hoodie for your own merch

It's not just the true oversized models that work well. Want a roomier look with a regular hoodie? Simply choose a size up. These Kariban models are ideal as a base for band, club or creator merch:

The K443 is extra sturdy at 360 g/m², and the white version is a blank canvas for a colourful full colour design. If you care about sustainability, go for the eco-friendly K4009 in organic French Terry. And the K489 can be washed at 60 °C, handy if your merch also doubles as workwear.

From the work floor to the merch table

Kariban can already see it happening: oversized and loose clothing is popping up more and more on the work floor, among teams who want a modern look. Think of a coffee bar, a tattoo shop, a bike repair shop or a creative agency. An oversized shirt with a big logo on the back feels less like a uniform and more like something you'd also wear at the weekend. Exactly what you want when your team proudly wears your name.

Which size should you choose for an oversized model?

Oversized models are already cut roomy, so just take your normal size. The K4018 hoodie runs from XXS to 3XL, and thanks to the elastane in the cuffs, the sleeves and hem keep their shape. If you want an oversized look with a regular hoodie, choose a size up. For a group, it's smart to have one sample made first: this way you can see the fit and how big your back print turns out, before ordering the rest.

Tip from the workshop

Wash your printed oversized shirt inside out at 30 or 40 degrees, skip the fabric softener and preferably hang it on the line. This way, a large back print stays looking good the longest.

Here's how it works

1Choose your fit.Truly oversized with the K3008 and K4018, or a roomy look with a size up in one of the other hoodies.
2Make your design big.Upload a sharp file for the back and, if you like, a small logo for the chest. Choose 1 colour or full colour per position.
3Approve the proof and wear it.Once you've approved it, we'll press it. Collect it in Nijmegen, or we'll deliver it.
