Why have a sweater or hoodie printed?

You don't wear a sweater or hoodie for just one afternoon, but for a whole season. That makes it one of the garments that stays visible the longest: on the bike to school, in the club canteen, on the building site or at home on the sofa. A hoodie with your own design is also a gift that people actually wear. Thick sweatshirt fabric offers plenty of room for a large print on the back or chest, and we press every item ourselves in our workshop on the Betouwstraat.

Where does the print go on a hoodie or sweater?

Each model has its own possibilities. As a guideline:

  • Left chest8 to 10 cm wide, for a subtle company logo.
  • Centre frontup to around 28 cm wide. For a hoodie with a kangaroo pocket, keep the print above the pocket, so a maximum height of around 20 cm.
  • Backup to around 30 by 40 cm, the spot for a large design, club name or year-group list.
  • Sleeve7 to 9 cm on the upper arm, or a narrow line of text along the forearm.
  • Zip-up jacketleft or right on the chest next to the zip; we don't press over the zip.

On the product page, you choose 1 colour or full colour per position and upload your logo or design. The digital proof shows you how big it will turn out on your size.

Printing sweatshirt fabric: cut vinyl or DTF

Sweatshirt fabric is thicker and softer than T-shirt fabric. The inside is brushed, which feels nice and warm, or has small loops (French terry), which wears more airily. The outside is smooth, and that's where we press. For a sharp logo or text in one or two colours, choose cut vinyl: opaque, crisp down to small letters and available in 104 colours, including gold, silver, metallic and fluorescent. A fluorescent back number on a black hoodie stands out from a distance.

If you want a photo, illustration or colourful design, choose a DTF transfer in full colour. It stays flexible on the fabric, covers well on dark sweaters and is also suitable if you only want to have one hoodie made.

Choosing weight, fit and material

The weight of sweatshirt fabric usually ranges between 260 and 350 g/m². Around 280 grams gives you a sweater that works well under a coat; above 300 grams it feels sturdy and warm enough for a cool evening outside. Also pay attention to the fit: a loose oversized hoodie has a different look than a fitted women's sweater. There are models with a round neck, hood, full zip or quarter zip, and children's sweaters for school parties and sports clubs.

Washing your printed hoodie

Sweatshirt fabric likes to take it easy in the washing machine. Wash inside out at 30 degrees, with the zip closed, and without fabric softener. Preferably let the hoodie dry on the line or lay it flat; a hot tumble dryer makes sweatshirt fabric pill and shrink more quickly. Never iron directly over the print. This way, both the fabric and your print stay looking good for longer.

Yes, you can order from us from 1 item. Upload your design, choose full colour and we'll apply it to the hoodie using a DTF transfer. This also works for photos and colourful illustrations, and you'll see the result first in a digital proof.

Can I visit Nijmegen to view sweaters and hoodies?

Yes. Our workshop is located in the centre of Nijmegen, at Betouwstraat 40. There you can feel the difference between a 280 gram and a 350 gram sweater, compare colours and discuss where your design will look best.

Do you deliver printed hoodies outside Nijmegen as well?

Yes. You can collect your order in the centre of Nijmegen or have it delivered, both in the region and throughout the rest of the Netherlands. Handy for a final-year class or club whose members live in different places.

Can a print be placed on the front of a hoodie with a pouch pocket?

Yes, but the print needs to stay above the kangaroo pocket, because a transfer doesn't sit properly over the pocket seams. Expect a maximum of around 28 cm wide and 20 cm high. If you want it larger, the back is the best spot.

Can you put names on the back of a final-year hoodie?

Yes, a back full of names is a popular design. You supply the complete back design as a file and we press it in one or more colours or full colour. For different names on each hoodie, it's best to request a quote.

Which technique do you use on sweatshirt fabric?

For logos and text in one or two colours, we use cut vinyl, available in 104 colours. For photos, gradients and many colours, we use DTF. Both are pressed with heat onto the smooth outer side of the sweatshirt fabric.

How do I wash a printed sweater or hoodie?

Wash inside out at 30 degrees with the zip closed and without fabric softener. Preferably dry the sweater on the line or lay it flat, as a hot tumble dryer makes sweatshirt fabric pill. Never iron directly over the print.
