Dibond, Forex or corrugated plastic: which material suits your sign?

The material determines how long your sign lasts, how heavy it is and how you hang it. These are the boards to choose from:

MaterialWhat is it?Best for
DibondTwo thin aluminium sheets with a plastic core. Rigid, flat and weather-resistant.Façade signs and signs that stay outside for years
ForexLight, hard PVC foam from 1 to 10 mm, also available as recycled Forex.Indoor signs and shorter periods outside, signs in a free shape
HPLHigh-pressure laminate: very hard and scratch-resistant.Signs in places where they take a lot of wear
Corrugated plasticLight plastic board with hollow channels.Lamp post signs, election and temporary signs
FabricBanner fabric, mesh that lets wind through, or PVC-free fabric.Banners, construction fence banners and large sizes

Not sure? Tell us where the sign is going and how long it needs to stay up, and we'll advise you at the counter or by email.

Black A-board with a red poster

For your shop or hospitality business

An A-board that brings people inside

An A-board is a salesperson who stands at your door all day. Choose a snap-frame board so you can show a new poster every week, or an A-board with a water tank or spring base for windy spots. Mind the municipal rules: in the city centre of Nijmegen, loose advertising signs on the street are not allowed. Elsewhere, under Nijmegen's advertising rules, you may place one A-board per business during opening hours, without a permit.

For events, sport and façades

Banners and frames: big and bold, easy to change

A banner is the quickest way to be seen big, at a sports ground, an event or on your façade. If it hangs in a windy spot, choose mesh fabric: it lets the wind through. We finish the fabric with hems, eyelets or velcro, exactly as you want to hang it. With a banner frame you stretch the fabric tight and can easily swap it later. You use the frame again and again.

Estate agent sign with a 'sold' sticker behind a window

For construction, property and estate agents

Construction signs, construction fence banners and estate agent signs

Show what's being built and who's doing it. A construction sign or fence banner turns a messy building site into a business card, and screens it off at the same time. For estate agents we make window and estate agent signs, with 'sold' or 'let' stickers to go with them.

Can you just put up an advertising sign in Nijmegen?

Not always. A sign on your own façade or premises is different from a sign on the pavement or by the road. These are the main rules:

  • A-boards: in the city centre and the urban hubs of Nijmegen, loose advertising signs on the street are not allowed. Elsewhere, one A-board per business is allowed, only during opening hours, within 5 metres of your premises, at most 1.2 metres high and 0.8 metres wide, not illuminated and without bright or fluorescent colours.
  • Sandwich boards are not allowed in Nijmegen.
  • Temporary advertising may stand for at most 31 days a year. Anything that stays up longer counts as permanent and often needs a permit.
  • By the road: advertising is not allowed along national roads, and in principle not along provincial roads in Gelderland either.
  • Beek and the rest of Berg en Dal have their own rules: there, signs in public space may only announce an event.

These rules come from the advertising policy rules of the municipality of Nijmegen and the explanations of the municipality, the Dutch government and the province of Gelderland. Rules change, so always check with the municipality before you put up a sign.

Frequently asked questions about advertising signs

Which material is best for an outdoor advertising sign?

For a sign that hangs outside for years you usually choose Dibond: rigid, flat and weatherproof. For a temporary or lighter sign, Forex or fluted board is a good choice. Not sure? Tell us where the sign is going and how long it needs to stay up.

What's the difference between Dibond and Forex?

Dibond consists of two aluminium sheets with a plastic core and is rigid and weather-resistant. Forex is light, hard PVC foam. It's easy to cut into a shape and ideal indoors and for shorter periods outside.

Do I need a permit for an advertising sign in Nijmegen?

That depends on the location and how long the sign stays up. Temporary advertising (at most 31 days a year) is often allowed with a notification; permanent advertising usually needs a permit. In the city centre, loose signs on the street are not allowed. Always check with the municipality of Nijmegen.

Can I put a pavement sign outside my business?

Outside the city centre and the urban hubs you may place one A-board per business in Nijmegen during opening hours, without a permit. The board must be within 5 metres of your premises, at most 1.2 metres high and 0.8 metres wide, and not illuminated or fluorescent.

Can I have a sign made in a custom shape?

Yes. We can contour cut advertising signs along your design, and mill Dibond façade signs in a simple or complex shape, right down to individual milled letters.

How do I hang an advertising sign or banner?

Signs can be made with drill holes, in the top corners or in every corner. We finish banners with hems, eyelets, velcro or a keder for a frame. With a banner frame you stretch the fabric tight and can easily swap it later.

Can I have just one sign made?

Yes, you can order from just one piece, in the size you need.

I don't have a design yet. Can you help?

Definitely. Drop by in the Betouwstraat or request a quote, and together we'll make a design that suits your sign and your spot.
