Everything about printing on clothing in Nijmegen

Why have a polo shirt printed?

A polo shirt sits exactly between a T-shirt and a shirt. The collar and button placket make it presentable, while it's just as easy to wear and wash as a T-shirt. That's why you see printed polo shirts behind the counter, in practices, on shop floors and at campaigns on the street. For De Fysioo we pressed practice polo shirts and for the Municipality of Nijmegen campaign polo shirts: two very different applications, with the same goal of presenting a recognisable and well-groomed appearance.

Where do you place your logo on a polo shirt?

With a polo shirt you need to take the button placket, collar and side vents into account. As a guideline we recommend:

  • Left chest7 to 9 cm wide, next to the button placket. This is by far the most popular spot for a polo shirt with a logo.
  • Right chest6 to 8 cm, for a second logo, a certification mark or the wearer's name.
  • Sleeve6 to 8 cm on the upper arm, lovely for a sponsor or website address.
  • Backup to around 28 by 35 cm, handy if your team needs to be recognisable from behind in a busy environment.
  • Neck below the collar6 to 8 cm, a subtle spot for a slogan or web address.

We don't press over the button placket or a seam; a transfer doesn't adhere well there. In the digital proof you can immediately see how big your logo will turn out.

Piqué and sports fabric: which technique works on a polo shirt?

Most polo shirts are made of piqué, a knitted cotton fabric with a fine waffle structure. That structure breathes well, but requires printing that is firmly pressed into the fabric. Cut vinyl does this excellently: a logo in one or two colours sits sharp and opaque on the fabric. You can choose from 104 vinyl colours, including gold, silver, metallic and fluorescent. Very fine lines in a logo can sometimes be lost on coarse piqué; you'll see and discuss this in the proof.

If your logo has a colour gradient or many colours, you choose a DTF transfer in full colour. This also works on polyester sports polo shirts, such as those from Proact and SG. On synthetic fabric we adjust the temperature and pressing time to the material, so the fabric stays in good condition.

Choosing weight, fit and sleeve length

A classic piqué polo shirt weighs around 180 to 220 g/m². Lighter feels airier, heavier holds its shape and collar better, which is pleasant if you wear the polo shirt every working day. Our long-sleeved piqué polo shirt, for example, comes in 200 grams, for men and women, ideal if you also work outdoors or in a cool building. Women's polo shirts have a fitted cut and often a shorter button placket; children's polo shirts are available for schools, clubs and family outings.

In this category you'll find 191 polo shirts from, among others, Kariban, B&C, Tee Jays, Kustom Kit, Fruit of the Loom, WK. Designed To Work, iDeal Basic Brand, Proact, SG and Native Spirit. The work polo shirts from WK. Designed To Work are made to be washed often and at high temperatures; if you filter by certification mark, you'll also find polo shirts made from organic cotton or recycled polyester.

Who we print polo shirts for

Physiotherapists, hairdressers, estate agents, installers and shops choose a polo shirt for their team because it looks neat and is still practical. Hospitality staff wear it while serving, municipalities and political parties during a campaign, sports clubs as club wear alongside the match shirt, and a rugby club or golf club also has polo shirts printed. Customers from Nijmegen-Oost, Lent, Malden and Groesbeek regularly drop by to try on fits.

Washing and caring for a printed polo shirt

Wash your polo shirt inside out and button it up first, so the collar and placket keep their shape. Wash at 40 degrees, skip the fabric softener and pull the polo shirt into shape while wet. Iron on the inside and never over the print. For work polo shirts that are often washed hot, we use a sturdy vinyl that can withstand this.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a single polo shirt printed?

Yes, you can order from us starting at 1 piece. Handy if you want to see one polo shirt first before kitting out the whole team, or if a new colleague joins. You simply reorder the same polo shirt with the same logo.

Can I come to Nijmegen to try on polo shirts?

Yes. In our workshop at Betouwstraat 40, in the centre of Nijmegen, you can feel fabrics, compare colours and discuss fits. This way you can see the difference between a light piqué polo shirt and a sturdier 200-gram model.

Do you also deliver printed polo shirts outside Nijmegen?

Yes. You can collect your polo shirts in the centre of Nijmegen or have them delivered, for example in Wijchen, Beuningen, Arnhem or elsewhere in the Netherlands. You simply choose this when completing your order.

How big should a logo be on the chest of a polo shirt?

As a guideline we use 7 to 9 cm wide for the left chest. Larger quickly runs into the button placket or armhole. For a second logo or a name on the right chest, 6 to 8 cm is a good size.

Does cut vinyl work well on piqué?

Yes. Cut vinyl is pressed into the piqué structure with heat and pressure and then sits sharp and opaque. Very thin lines may turn out less crisp on coarse piqué; you'll see this beforehand in the digital proof, and we'll give you advice.

Can I have a polo shirt printed with my name or job title?

Yes, a name or job title on the right chest is a popular addition to the company logo. We usually do this in cut vinyl, in the same colour as the logo. For a list with different names, the easiest way is to request a quote.

How do I wash a printed polo shirt?

Button up the polo shirt, turn it inside out and wash at 40 degrees without fabric softener. Pull it into shape while wet and iron only on the inside. This way the collar, fit and print stay neat for a long time.
